Walmart is selling Snickers bars for $.57! What a great sale!! Good thing I have $1.00 on me; I hope that will cover the cost. If Snickers are being sold for $.57 and I pay the cashier $1.00 how much money should I get back? If you didn't know how much money you would be getting back, you would ALWAYS be getting cheated out of your money! Good thing, you're in Mr. F's Math class so you'll always know how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals! What would happen if you had 20.19 then your mom gives you 47.92; how much do you have now? If you get hungry and stop by McDonalds for a cheeseburger that costs 1.59 after tax, how much do you have now? To figure this out the first thing you would want to do is make sure you line up the digits and decimals to ensure you don't lose any extra money. When adding and subtracting decimals we ALWAYS line up the decimal! However when we are multiplying decimals we DO NOT need to line up our decimal places. Lets keep going with our example; after mom gives up 47.92, hopefully you came out with 68.11 WOW!! you're practically rich! but after you get a little hungry and stop by McDonalds you should have 66.52 in your account! Is that what you got? I hope so! Lets do some more practice with Adding, Subtracting, and Multiplying Decimals.
